Are you the Carpentry Apprentice of the Year 2009?

 
  

The Registered Master Builders Apprentice of the Year competition in association with Carters recognises excellence amongst carpentry apprentices and raises awareness of careers in the building and construction industry.

It is a joint initiative run by the Registered Master Builders Federation (RMBF), principal sponsor Carters and the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO).

Winners from the regional competition will go on to compete for the National Apprentice of the Year title in Wellington.

Who Can Enter?

The competition is open to ALL young carpentry apprentices. You don't have to work for a Registered Master Builder or be doing a BCITO apprenticeship. You must be employed with a building company or individual builder (including at the time of judging) and;

To enter you must:

  • Be aged 26 years or under as at 31st December 2009,
  • Be completing a National Certificate in Carpentry,
  • Have completed at least two years of the National Certificate in Carpentry onsite or have completed your apprenticeship within six months of the closing date Friday 31st July 2009,
  • Reside in the competition region.

How Do I Enter?

Entries open on 6 April 2009.

RMBF will distribute entry kits through the Building Today Magazine, RMB Associations and Regional Service Officers.

The Competition is Judged in Three Stages:


Entry form

The entry form is your first chance to impress the judges so make sure it's your best work! You'll need to include a short description of why you think you're the best apprentice in the region as well as comments from your employer and training provider. You'll also need to describe a building project you are working on or have finished to demonstrate your skill and learning.

Interviews

All entrants will be required to attend an interview, so we can check you out in person.


Onsite judging

Finalists in the regional competitions will receive a site visit from the judges.

This is your chance to showcase your knowledge and skills on your own turf. Each regional winner will go on to compete for the national title in Wellington.


Prize Packs

Through the support of sponsors, we are offering a substantial prize, which includes:

  • Participation in a specialist Outward Bound Leadership Programme tailored for Apprentice of the Year winners (to the value of $2,600 plus travel)
  • A grant towards completion of your study or postgraduate study in any construction or building course (to the value of $2,000)

 

Regional place getters receive a prize pack, which includes:

  • A one year Apprentice membership to RMBF
  • Tools and products from Carters
  • Branded merchandise from the BCITO
  • Material from the Department of Building and Housing.
