Waikato region’s top home builds announced
A Pauanui home and a Hamilton renovation have won this year’s Supreme Awards in the Waikato Registered Master Builders 2018 House of the Year competition.
Holah Homes won seven regional awards at the competition. They were awarded the Waikato Registered Master Builders 2018 Supreme House of the Year, a Gold Award and Category win for the New Home over $2 million award for their Pauanui home. They were also awarded the Craftmanship Award, the Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award, the Heart of the Home Kitchen Award and the Outdoor Living Award.
Urban Homes was awarded the Waikato Registered Master Builders 2018 Supreme Renovation of the Year, along with a Gold Award and Category win for the Bunnings Renovation $500,000 - $1 million award.
Urban Homes had three other homes receive awards in the competition - a Gold Award and Category win for the New Home $550,000 - $700,000 award, a Gold Award and Category win for the Volume/Group Housing New Home $450,000 - $700,000 award and a Gold Award for the GIB Show Home Award.
Judges said the winning House of the Year is a modern family holiday home and impressed them with its well thought out design.
“The use of floor to ceiling windows opens the house up to extensive sea views. It also allows this relatively small home to appear more expansive.
“The use of natural timber finishes to the internal walls and ceilings offer a warm ambient feel, as well as offering texture to the rooms. Both the contractor and owner can be very proud of this project.”
Judges said the winning renovation of the year has seamlessly created a new character home with modern conveniences.
“The house was completely modernised. It gives the impression that it is a new house – it is impossible to see what was old and what was new.
“The renovation was beautifully designed and seamlessly constructed, creating a better insulated modern home that maximises the sun and fantastic views.
“This a beautiful renovation that has been finished to a very high standard, a worthy Supreme winner.”
The results of the regional competition were revealed at a gala dinner on 13 July at the Claudelands Events Centre. The winning builds were celebrated by Waikato Registered Master Builders Association members and colleagues from the local construction industry.
There were 19 Gold Award winners from the Waikato region which will now be judged against Gold Award winners from around the country to find the National Gold Reserve finalists.
