Seasoned House of the Year entrant wins Supreme Award

Christchurch’s Takahe Construction Limited won the title of Registered Master Builders 2018 Renovation of the Year, with their superb renovation of a Merivale home. The company also took out the national category win for the Renovation over $1 million Award and the Outdoor Living Award.
Takahe Construction Directors were incredibly humbled with their Supreme win.
“We took the whole project team up to Auckland for the Awards. It was a real privilege to win an award we have always been striving for as a company,” they say.
“When we first started our company 10 years ago, one of the biggest reasons we joined Registered Master Builders was the House of the Year Awards. We knew they would help our own brand and we loved the fact we could use them to advertise our quality work.
“The only way to give yourself a point of difference in the industry is to be recognised for quality, and House of the Year allows us to do that.”
Takahe Construction Directors say the high level of finishes made the house stand out from its competitors.
“The main brief was to bring this 1990’s home up to date with modern technology, and to add entertainment spaces. The house has a fantastic alfresco area, with an outdoor kitchen that includes a chef’s barbeque, oscillating TV, heat-scope heaters in the ceiling, retracting louvers, and a glass gas fire. That area was very important for the owners with their style of living, and I think we did it justice.”
Judges remarked on the amazing quality of the Takahe Construction Limited’s renovation, which was extensively damaged in the Christchurch quakes.
“Originally built in the 1990’s, the client chose to engage the original architect to complete a full re-design, whilst retaining the elegance of the original home.
“A collaborative approach between client, architect, engineer and builder made this project a success. The quality demonstrated in both the re-build work and the overall renovation is a credit to the team involved.
“This is truly a spectacular home, which the builder should be extremely proud of.”
Takahe Construction has entered House of the Year before, and this is their first Supreme Award.
“We have entered 5 houses over a ten-year period which have all won Gold Awards, with a couple winning the regional category awards. This year was our first Supreme win, which was fantastic. The whole project was a great experience from start to finish.”
