Mid & South Canterbury
Supreme Winners Announced

On Saturday night we announced the Mid & South Canterbury House of the Year winners for 2021.

This year, there were 12 beautiful homes entered from around the Mid & South Canterbury region. The much anticipated event was celebrated at the Hotel Ashburton and was a fantastic evening of celebration. We hope everyone who attended had a great night.

Supreme House of the Year

WILSON BUILDING TIMARU
For a Home in Timaru

This home also won the CARTERS New Home $1 million - $1.5 million category, Outdoor Living Excellence Award, Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award, and a Gold Award.

This grand residence stretches along the contour of an elevated rural site, looking out over farmland to the Southern Alps. The two wings of the house are linked by an impressive entranceway which is highlighted by schist and recycled bridge timbers.

Workmanship, craftsmanship and attention to detail are what makes this house stand out above the rest. The materials and detailing are of a very high quality and there has also been a clear and thoughtful planning process. The cedar cladding, schist and recycled timber combine to create an overall composition that compliments the art and spaces of the home’s interior.

Antique farm machinery, garden chairs and collectables provide the finishing touches to this wonderfully landscaped site. The paving, pergola, and outdoor furniture create an ideal setting to contemplate the wider rural landscape. This fabulous outdoor area features a sheltered and skylighted alcove with a barbeque, sink and outdoor heating. This provides an active outside living environment as well as an extension to the formal living spaces of the house.

Supreme Renovation of the Year

WILSON BUILDING TIMARU
For a Home in Kensington

This home also won the Bunnings Renovation Over $1 million category, Latitude Magazine Award, Pink Batts Craftsmanship Award, Kitchen Excellence Award, and a Gold Award, for a home in Kensington, Timaru.

While it may have looked simple, this renovation was anything but. It features a twisting pole structure, a sloped site, and an inventive chain bracing system which was added to the existing structure.

This was an innovative and inventive renovation which also included additions. This 1970’s lighthouse inspired hexagonal bach sits on a very demanding site which tested the builder at every turn. Wilson Builders have succeeded in creating an exciting and unconventional response to a demanding brief. A brave client needed a brave builder. Well done to the Wilson Building team.
