East Coast/Manawatu/Whanganui region’s top home builds announced

12th July 2019

A Havelock North home in Hastings has been recognised as the best new home in this year’s East Coast/Manawatu/Whanganui Registered Master Builders 2019 House of the Year competition. This exceptional home won the coveted Supreme Award, the top award for the region.

Redmond Builders not only took home the Supreme Award, they also won five other regional awards, including the Resene New Home over $2 million category, the Craftmanship Award, the Outdoor Living Award, the Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award and the Heart of the Home Kitchen Award.

Judges said this is an exceptional home which has spaces to capture good lighting and good views.

“The house has a mid-century modern feel that flows throughout the house to the outdoors. From a restrained and elegant entry, clad in travertine, to the floating cantilevered first floor, the home has a high construction quality and detailing that belies the complex structure beneath.
“The simplicity and clarity of forms in this home cover up the complex details. From complex concrete forms to significant cantilevers, this build required accuracy and perfection from the start. The quality of materials, and their composition and installation helped produce an excellent result. The craftsmanship displayed a range of work that went above and beyond the ordinary.”

The results of the regional competition were revealed at a gala dinner on Friday 12 July at the Napier Conference Centre. The winning builds were celebrated by the region’s Registered Master Builders and members of the local construction industry.

Overall there were nine Gold Award winners from the Hawke’s Bay/East Coast area, which will now be judged against Gold Award winners from around the country to find the National Top 100 Gold Award finalists.

National category winners and the Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for House of the Year and Renovation of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner on 23 November at Cordis Hotel in Auckland.

The Awards are made possible through the support of Altus Windows, Bunnings Trade, CARTERS, GIB, Master Build 10 Year Guarantee, PlaceMakers, Plumbing World, and Resene.
