Taranaki region’s finest home builds announced

An elegant Strandon home in New Plymouth has been recognised as the best new build in this year’s Taranaki Registered Master Builders 2019 House of the Year competition. The home took out the Supreme Award, the top award for the region.

The home’s builders, Lifestyle Building and Construction, won four regional awards all up. This included the coveted Craftmanship award, given to builds that showcase the highest level of workmanship. They also took out the New Home $1.5 million - $2 million category and Heart of the Home Kitchen Award.

Judges were impressed with the precision and collaboration shown by the entire construction team.  

“This elegant and finely finished home takes advantage of a carefully considered location within a small urban site. It offers framed views of the ocean, while providing privacy from adjacent houses. 

“The cedar shiplap and plaster cladding compliment the rawness of the exposed ‘board formed’ precast concrete panels. With limited site to work with and very tight tolerances, creating these concrete panels up to 3-stories high provided a tough challenge. 

“Lifestyle Building and Construction have crafted a sophisticated and well-mannered residence that aesthetically and functionally relates to its brief, location and environment. It is job well done!”

The results of the regional competition were revealed at a gala dinner on July 27 at the Devon Hotel. The winning builds were celebrated by the regions Registered Master Builders and members of the local construction industry.  

Overall there were 8 Gold Award winners from the Taranaki area, which will now be judged against Gold Award winners from around the country to find the National Top 100 Gold Award finalists.

National category winners and the Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for House of the Year and Renovation of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner on 23 November at Cordis Hotel in Auckland.

About the Registered Master Builders 2019 House of the Year
The competition is divided into two parts – the first is at a regional level, the second is at a national level. 

Gold, Silver and Bronze Award winners are determined using a points-based system. These award-winners are announced at 10 regional events held throughout New Zealand during July and August.

The top 100 homes from the regions will go on to the national awards. They will be re-judged by a panel of national judges, who will determine the overall national winners. These will be announced at the National event in Auckland on 23 November.
