Kia Ora,
The Government announced yesterday that from 13 April, the following fully vaccinated people can enter New Zealand and do not need to self-isolate or enter MIQ:
- Australian citizens and permanent residents.
- Current temporary work and student visa holders from anywhere in the world, with a valid visa who can still meet their visa requirements — this includes both visa holders currently offshore, and those in New Zealand who choose to travel overseas and wish to return.
From 2 May, the following fully vaccinated people can enter New Zealand and do not need to self-isolate or enter MIQ:
- Visitors from countries who do not need a visa (visa waiver visitors).
- Visitors from other countries who already hold a valid visitor visa.
Visa waiver country information can be found here.
From July 2022, the following fully vaccinated people can enter New Zealand and do not need to self-isolate or enter MIQ:
- Travelers arriving under the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) categories.
Information on AEWV can be found here.
All arrivals into New Zealand need to have evidence of a negative pre departure test. Details on what is required can be found here.

Getting tested for COVID-19
Get a COVID-19 test if:
- you have symptoms, or
- you are a Household Contact
RATs are available for free from the Ministry of Health if you fit the criteria. They can also be purchased from retailers and supermarkets.
COVID-19 Positive & Household Contacts
If you are COVID-19 positive, you need to isolate for 7 days. Start counting your 7 days from day 0. Day 0 is the day that your symptoms started or the day that you got tested if you do not have any symptoms. You can finish isolation after the 7 days if you have no new or worsening symptoms. If you still have symptoms at day 7, it is recommended you stay home until 24 hours after your symptoms have finished.
Your household contacts will need to isolate with you. They will need to be tested on Day 3 and Day 7 or if they develop symptoms at any time. If they test positive, they will need to start their 7 days again from the positive result or when symptoms started.
The image below shows when to isolate and how long for if you are in a household with COVID-19 cases.

An enlarged image of the below can be found here.
Detailed information on how to self-isolate and report a positive RAT result can be found here.
