Policy Statements

Climate Change
Registered Master Builders submitted on the changes proposed to the construction sector under the Emissions Reduction Plan. The plan will be the basis for how New Zealand will achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Master Builders supports a transition towards a net carbon zero industry.

The final plan will be published by government in May 2022.

Consenting
We understand that constraints and delays around consenting is a significant issue for our members.

We are still finalising our position on this key area and will be finalised in 2022.

Housing Policy
New Zealand is currently facing a housing crisis. Every New Zealander needs a home, and we are the industry relied upon to do this. Homes need to be warm, dry, and safe, and we support our industry in building a better New Zealand.

In 2021, we completed submissions on the GPS-HUD and the RMA Amendment Bill.

In 2022, we plan to further develop our strategy in this area.

Industry Sustainability
With COVID-19, supply chain disruption and labour shortages, more work needs to be done to improve the sustainability of our industry. The construction industry goes through a boom bust cycle, and whilst this may have advantages, it can be greatly improved. Many areas of the building industry need addressing to change the sector in the long term, and we advocate for positive change for everyone. Progress will continue into the future surrounding this hot topic.
