The Lower North Island Apprentice of the Year Regional Winner is...🛠️
05 September 2022
The top three Apprentices from the Lower North Island region have been announced for the 2022 Registered Master Builders CARTERS Apprentice of the Year.
The Apprentice of the Year competition recognises excellence among carpentry apprentices and raises awareness of career opportunities in the building and construction industry. The competition tests our future sector leaders' project management, business, presentation, and practical skills.
For the regional competition, each apprentice had to initially submit a building project. They then took part in a two-hour practical challenge where they were tasked with building a sawhorse. The top 10 from each region then progressed to the interview stage with a judging panel and an onsite visit to discuss their project.
27 year old Christopher Reedy from Paraparaumu was named the Lower North Island Registered Master Builders CARTERS Apprentice of the Year winner. His training provider is BCITO and he is employed by Barber Construction.
The judges said, "It was clear that Christopher had put a lot of effort in to ensure he was well versed on the required interview topics. His passion for the industry really shone through, particularly his extensive building knowledge. It is obvious that Christopher keeps up to date with industry changes and is now running his own jobs. He will go a long away in the construction industry."
Second place went to Christian Imlig, 20. His training provider is BCITO and he is employed by Epic Homes.
The judges said, "Christian had a really good project submission that was completed with a great level of detail, clearly outlining his build. Christian was very chatty, and it was clear that he is very passionate about the industry. He had a tidy station during the practical competition and went the extra mile with the details."
Third place went to Eden Cruise, 23. His training provider is BCITO and he is employed by Planit Construction.
The judges said, "Hot on the heels of the first two place getters was Eden’s submission. From the practical to all round tidiness, Eden did a great job at covering off all aspects of the submission. The level of detail in Eden’s answers is reflective of someone who prepares well and is passionate about their work. These two traits will serve Eden well in the years ahead."
National Competition
The top apprentice from each region will then go on to compete in the National Competition in Auckland. This includes a 45-minute interview with the national judging panel and an additional six-hour practical skills test, followed by the National Awards Dinner where we will announce the winner.
The National Practical will be co-located at
CONZTRUCT Auckland North on Monday 14th November 2022 at Eventfinda Stadium.
