Business memberships
Our business memberships suit a range of commercial needs, whether you’re a self-employed contractor, or you run a building and construction company or franchise.
Contractor
Annual fee: $255 (excl GST)
A qualified or experienced carpenter who is self-employed and only contracts to a building company.
Residential builder
Annual fee: Based on turnover.
A primarily residential building company that contracts to the public. Grouped by annual turnover:

under $500,000; annual fee: $1,565 (excl GST)
- $500,000 to $2 million; annual fee: $1,850 (excl GST)
- over $2 million; annual fee: $3,385 (excl GST)
Volume builder
Annual fee: $4,050 (excl GST)
A primarily residential building company that builds more than 10 properties a year but is not part of a franchise.
Franchisee
Annual fee: $3,385 (excl GST)
A primarily residential building company that is part of a franchise where the franchisor is a Master Builders member.
Franchisor
Annual fee: $3,090 (excl GST)
The head office of a building franchise that actively promotes Master Builders membership to its franchisees.
Commercial builder
Annual fee: $4,050 (excl GST)
A primarily non-residential company operating at a local or regional level.
Major contractor
Annual fee: $8,580 (excl GST)
A primarily non-residential building company operating in several regions or nationwide.
Individual memberships
Our individual memberships are ideal if you’re a builder and don’t run a business or are still growing your skills and experience. You may also be a professional working in the wider industry.
Apprentice
Fee: FREE for member employees
A person undertaking a recognised carpentry qualification.
Student
Fee: FREE for member employees, or $30 one-off
A person undertaking a recognised construction qualification (for example, supervision, project management, quantity surveying, architecture).
Individual
Annual fee: $130 (excl GST)
A person who is permanently employed, of good character, and:
- is an LBP in carpentry or site, or
- has a recognised carpentry qualification, or
- has sufficient experience.
Professional
Annual fee: $130 (excl GST)
A person who holds a recognised construction qualification (for example, supervision, project management, quantity surveying, architecture).
Retired and life memberships
Our members dedicate their careers to helping build a better New Zealand. We have memberships to recognise long service and help you stay connected with a community of building and construction peers.
Semi-retired
Annual fee: $255 (excl GST)
A company owner or director who is still doing some trading.
Retired
Annual fee: $70 (excl GST)
A person who no longer works in the building and construction industry.
Life member
Fee: FREE
Awarded at the discretion of the local branch executive to a long-serving member.
