Constructive

Led by the Registered Master Builders Association (RMBA), Constructive is an annual industry-led effort to enhance collaboration to enable the sector to deliver the step change required to respond to New Zealand’s growing building and construction demands. The purpose of Constructive is to bring the entire supply chain together, from finance, land, design and build, and key enabling sectors such as research, training and regulation to identify ways to lift performance in the sector. Collaboration is the enduring theme of Constructive.

Constructive is owned by RMBA and supported by a family of sponsors and partner organisations.

Constructive 2023 was held in Auckland on Wednesday 30 August and Thursday 31 August. Watch this space for the dates for 2024.

House of the Year

The Registered Master Builders House of the Year awards celebrate the very best in residential building from new homes and show homes to renovations and builder’s own homes.

The competition has been running for more than 30 years, recognising the craftsmanship of New Zealand’s best builders from across the sector, including affordable homes and through to luxury buildings.

The competition is divided into two parts – the first is at a regional level, the second at a national level.

Gold, Silver and Bronze Award winners, and the Regional Supreme Winners for both new builds and renovations, are judged by a team of experts using a points-based system. These award-winners are announced at 10 regional events held throughout New Zealand during July and August. All of the houses are featured on the House of the Year website and in Regional magazines delivered direct to homes throughout the regions.

The Top 100 winners become Gold Reserve National Finalists. The national finalists are then re-judged by a panel of judges who determine the overall national category winners and the National Supreme Winners, which are announced at the National event in Auckland in November. The winning homes are showcased in the National House of the Year magazine that is available from all good magazine retailers in early December.

New Zealand Commercial Projects Awards

Founded in 2013 the New Zealand Commercial Project Awards builds on the success of the RMB Commercial Project Awards, which set the benchmark for commercial building in New Zealand.

These prestigious awards are now open to all New Zealand commercial contractors and their significant construction partners e.g. Architects, Building Owners, Engineers and Quantity Surveyors etc.

Designed by a group of commercial contractors who are committed to celebrating excellence in their craft, these awards aim to:

  • Promote and encourage excellent building processes and practices within the commercial contracting sector
  • Celebrate the quality of work and craftsmanship required in delivering a superior commercial project while promoting the wider team
  • Promote the contractors contribution to the construction relationship and the genuine value of the construction process

Apprentice of The Year

The Registered Master Builders Apprentice of the Year, in partnership with CARTERS, aims to recognise excellence among carpentry apprentices and raise awareness of career opportunities in the building and construction industry. It’s a competition that looks to test several aspects of a well-rounded apprentice, not just their skills on the tools.

Apprentices, you can enter whether or not you work for a Registered Master Builder. Employers, we encourage all of you and particularly our Business Members to put their best apprentices forward for this competition, it’s a fantastic experience and the prize pool is fantastic.

Employers can read about the benefits here. Prior years’ entrants have said they got the following out of entering:

  • A chance to compare themselves against other apprentices to see how they stack up
  • Recognition of their skills, which is valuable for future employment opportunities
  • The process of preparing the entry form, and for finalists being interviewed and having a site visit was a great learning experience, and a chance to meet industry people and network
  • Built confidence in themselves and their skills.
